Buying Cannabis Legally in California

Legal medical cannabis in California goes back to 1996. Proposition 64 legalized adult use, and licensed recreational stores opened for business in 2018.

The rules for shopping in Patterson:

• You'll be asked for a valid photo ID from a government issuer showing 21+. For medicinal buys, customers 18 or over must have a physician's recommendation, and the MMIC stays optional.

• Concentrate is capped at 8 grams a day and flower at 28.5 grams, one ounce. A physician's recommendation moves the limit to 8 ounces, or whatever higher figure it sets.

• Recreational shoppers don't have to live in California. Medicinal shoppers need their recommendation from a California-licensed physician.

• You can consume on private property if the owner allows it, but not in public places, and your purchase can't cross into another state.
