About This Location
Catalyst on 17th Street
Catalyst Costa Mesa is one of the Eastside's retail corridors: coffee, surf shops, the library up at Lions Park, and us in the middle of it.
Weed for the People means we don't play games with the price. Tax is already included, so what you see is what you pay.
The Neighborhood
The store sits on the Eastside, a block east of Newport Boulevard and just south of where the 55 freeway ends at 19th Street. From there, Newport Boulevard keeps running toward the coast.
That puts the beach genuinely close. Newport Pier is about two miles southwest, which makes this the nearest Catalyst to the coast in Orange County.
Lions Park and the Costa Mesa library are a third of a mile northwest, Triangle Square is half a mile north, and Fairview Park is a little over two miles the same way.
Head north instead and the OC Fair & Event Center sits about 2.3 miles up, with Orange Coast College at 2.5 and South Coast Plaza at 4.2. Upper Newport Bay is 2.3 miles northeast.

What We Carry
The 17th Street floor, section by section, and what to ask for in each.
Cannabis Flower
Flower on the 17th Street wall is sold by weight, and packaging dates are worth a look, since cannabis dries out and loses aroma over time.
Cereal Milk and Grape Gas rotate through, with Coastal Sun, Smoken Promises and Evidence among the cultivators stocked.
Pre-Rolls
The 17th Street shelf runs pre-roll singles and multi-packs, plus empty cones if you'd rather pack your own.
Standard means ground flower, rolled for you. Infused means concentrate worked in before rolling, which makes them typically more potent. A Cat 4 gram is $5, or $4 on the house-brand hookup.
Vapes and Cartridges
Costa Mesa carries both standalone cartridges and All-in-Ones. If you already own a compatible battery, a cartridge keeps the hardware separate. An All-in-One comes with the battery built in and charged.
Cat 4 and Plugplay are all in the case.
Concentrates
Concentrates come as badder, shatter, crumble, and similar, and those words describe consistency rather than quality.
If you're new to them, tell a budtender what hardware you already have before choosing a gram, because a rig and a dab pen work differently. Potency is printed on every package.
Edibles
The edible shelf has widened well past gummies. Chocolates, mints, baked goods, and a full run of drinks all sit on it.
California caps adult-use edibles at 10mg THC per serving and 100mg per package. Read the milligrams per piece, and wait up to two hours for effects to kick in.
Topicals and Tinctures
Topicals are easy to overlook if you don't already know what they do. Balms, lotions, and patches go on the skin, and many are non-intoxicating, though it varies by product.
Tinctures are liquid, with a dropper for measuring, taken under the tongue or added to a drink.

Buying Cannabis Legally in California
The legal groundwork runs back to 1996 for medical cannabis, and to Proposition 64 for recreational, which brought licensed sales in 2018.
At the 17th Street counter, that translates to:
Recreational shoppers show a valid government-issued photo ID proving they're 21 or over. Medicinal patients aged 18 and up show a physician's recommendation. A county-issued MMIC is accepted too, though it isn't required.
Purchase limits per day: an ounce of flower, 28.5 grams, and 8 grams of concentrate. Medicinal patients can buy as much as 8 ounces, or more if that's what the recommendation specifies.
California residency isn't required for recreational purchases, and out-of-state visitors buy under the same limits. Medicinal purchases need a recommendation from a physician licensed here.
Consume on private property. Streets, sidewalks, parks, and the beach are all off limits, and taking cannabis across state lines isn't legal.
