About This Location

Catalyst on Highland Way

Highland Way sits a few minutes off Highway 1 on the south side of town, three-quarters of a mile from the Pier Avenue entrance to Oceano Dunes.

Grover Beach gets busy on summer weekends, and Catalyst is open 9am to 9pm daily.

Weed for the People is how we price. Tax is already included, so what you see is what you pay, and a Cat 4 sticker means that product cleared our own pesticide panel, wider than the state requires.

The Neighborhood

Highland Way sits on the south edge of Grover Beach, a short run off Highway 1 and close enough to the sand that the dunes are the nearest landmark rather than a shopping center.

The Pier Avenue entrance to Oceano Dunes is three-quarters of a mile southwest, and the Grand Avenue beach entrance about 1.1 miles northwest. Both bring recreational traffic through the area, especially on busy summer weekends.

The Grover Beach Amtrak and transit stop is a mile northwest, on the Pacific Surfliner line.

Pismo Beach Pier is 2.5 miles northwest and the Monarch Butterfly Grove 1.6, with Arroyo Grande a mile and three quarters northeast. San Luis Obispo sits about 12 miles north.

What We Carry

Six categories on the Highland Way floor. Here's what's in each and what to ask for.

Cannabis Flower

Rainbow Kush, Grape Gas, Black Mamba, and Unruly OG rotate through Highland Way. If you're comparing two jars, start with the cultivator and the package information rather than treating price or THC percentage as the whole story.

Coastal Sun, Astronauts, Blem, and Smoken Promises are the cultivators on the wall, and flower sells by weight from a single gram upwards.

Browse the flower menu.

Pre-Rolls

Singles and multi-packs are both stocked.

A standard pre-roll is ground flower; an infused one has concentrate worked in before rolling, so it's typically more potent. California Love, Coastal Sun, and Catalyst's own line cover the range, with a Cat 4 house single at $5, or $4 on the house-brand hookup.

See the pre-roll menu.

Vapes and Cartridges

Not everything called a vape includes the hardware. Some boxes hold a cartridge alone, which needs a battery you already own. An All-in-One puts the oil, the heating element, and the battery in one ready-to-use unit.

Plugplay, Muha Meds, MJuice, and our own Cat 4 line are all in the case.

See the vape menu.

Concentrates

Budder, shatter, and crumble are consistency names, set by how the extract is processed rather than by what went into it. None of them is a quality grade.

Most of the dabbable concentrates in the case are designed for a rig, an e-rig, or a concentrate-compatible pen, so tell a budtender what hardware you have before choosing one. Weed For Warriors, Punch Extracts, and the Catalyst line cover most of the case.

See the concentrate menu.

Edibles

Don't judge an edible by the number on the front of the pack alone. Check how that total is divided between pieces.

California limits edible servings to 10mg THC and standard packages to 100mg, and effects can take up to two hours to arrive. Drops, Wyld, Froot, and Dr. Norm's are stocked here.

See the edibles menu.

Topicals and Tinctures

The topicals shelf holds balms, lotions, and patches, all applied rather than consumed. Non-intoxicating options are common, but that varies by product.

A tincture is a liquid extract that comes with its own dropper, marked so you can measure out an amount before taking it under the tongue or adding it to a drink. Papa & Barkley, St. Ides, VetCBD, and Friendly are the names here.

Buying Cannabis Legally in California

The state has allowed medical cannabis since 1996. Recreational use arrived with Proposition 64, and shops were licensed to sell from 2018.

On Highland Way, the rules come down to this:

  • Anyone 21 or over can buy recreational cannabis on a government-issued photo ID. From 18, medicinal patients need a physician's recommendation, and a county-issued MMIC is accepted instead without being required.

  • One ounce of flower, 28.5 grams, and 8 grams of concentrate is the daily cap. Medicinal patients can reach 8 ounces, and further still if the recommendation sets a higher figure.

  • Visitors buy recreational cannabis on the same terms as residents; there's no residency test. Medicinal purchases need a recommendation from a physician licensed in California.

  • Consumption is private property only, which rules out the sand, the dunes, the state campgrounds, and every other public space around here. Nothing bought here can cross a state line either.

Our guides cover the rest: California cannabis laws and how to purchase weed in California.

FAQ section

Dispensary in Cannabis Grover Beach FAQs

We can't wait to welcome you to our dispensary in Cannabis Grover Beach. As you plan your visit, here are a few helpful things to keep in mind.

1053 Highland Way, Grover Beach, CA 93433, on the south side of town a short run off Highway 1.

About three-quarters of a mile southwest of the Pier Avenue entrance.

Nine to nine, seven days a week at Highland Way, holidays included unless we post otherwise.

Yes, a dedicated lot at the Highland Way store with security on site through business hours.

Yes. The Highland Way store is wheelchair accessible.

No. California limits consumption to private property, and that rules out the sand, the dunes, the state campgrounds, and every other public space in the Five Cities.

Not for recreational purchases. Adults 21+ just need a valid government-issued photo ID. Medicinal patients 18+ need a valid physician's recommendation; a county-issued MMIC works too, but it isn't required.

Both. License C10-0000270-LIC covers adult-use and medicinal retail, and Grover Beach runs a single floor for both.

State law sets the daily cap at 28.5 grams of flower, one ounce, plus 8 grams of concentrate. Medicinal patients can go up to 8 ounces, or more if their recommendation specifies it.

Debit cards and cash, and there's an ATM on the Highland Way floor if you need one. We do not take credit cards.

No. Highland Way sells over the counter and hands over online orders, and that's the full extent of it. Catalyst runs no delivery service in any county.

There is. Ten percent comes off a first purchase at Grover Beach. Bring valid ID; medicinal shoppers 18 to 20 should also bring their physician's recommendation or MMIC.

Yes. The Catalyst Rewards Club adds points on every purchase, which convert into member pricing and early event access. Joining is free at the Highland Way counter or online.

ID showing you're 21 or over, plus debit or cash. If you're 18 to 20 and buying medicinal, bring your physician's recommendation or your MMIC.

The Highland Way shelves carry Coastal Sun, Astronauts, Blem, Smoken Promises, California Love, Plugplay, Muha Meds, MJuice, Weed For Warriors, Punch Extracts, Drops, Wyld, Froot, Dr. Norm's, Papa & Barkley, St. Ides, VetCBD, and Friendly, alongside our own Cat 4 line.

An additional pesticide screen Catalyst built after finding chemicals in products that had already passed California-required compliance testing. Brands submit voluntarily, anything passing carries a Cat 4 sticker in store, and failures lose their shelf space whatever they were selling.

Pre-rolls and edibles, mostly. Both are sealed, need nothing else to use, and survive a cooler on the way to Oceano better than loose flower or a concentrate that needs a rig.

We stock them on both the topicals and tinctures shelves, high-CBD and low-THC, for adults 21+ who'd rather skip the intoxication.

Yes, and it's the quickest route through the store. Build it on the online menu and collect at the Highland Way counter with ID.
